The Car
Description
1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback
This factory Raven Black Mach 1 retains its red deluxe interior, a combination found on only 640 fastbacks. Ford FE specialist Bill Parham built the car and kept it as his personal Mustang for 35 years. It was later inherited by his niece and displayed in a Summit Performance showroom. The blueprinted and dyno-tuned 427 FE-based engine was stroked to 484 cubic inches and produces 514 horsepower and 554 lb-ft of torque, delivered through a Top Loader four-speed manual transmission.

EXTERIOR
The rust-free fastback body is laser straight and finished in its original Raven Black color with a mirror-like gloss. Satin-black hood treatment and red reflective Mach 1 stripes provide the correct contrast. Front and rear spoilers, sport mirrors and rear-window louvers complete the performance appearance.
Chrome, weatherstripping and the windshield present well. The car rides on 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels fitted with BFGoodrich tires.
INTERIOR
The factory red deluxe interior features molded door panels and high-back bucket seats. The carpeting and headliner are fresh and correctly fitted, and the dash pad and instrument panel were replaced. A vintage Sun tachometer is mounted on the steering column, which carries a Shelby-style steering wheel.
A retro-style stereo is installed. The center console houses the Hurst shifter for the four-speed manual transmission. The cabin is complete, well preserved and functional.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT
Bill Parham built, blueprinted and dyno-tuned the engine from a 427 FE block stroked to 484 cubic inches. Internal components include a Scat steel crankshaft, H-beam connecting rods, Keith Black hypereutectic pistons, a Demos solid-lifter camshaft and double-roller timing chain. A polished aluminum intake carries dual Holley 600-cfm carburetors. Ceramic-coated headers and an MSD 6AL ignition system complete the performance package.
Finned valve covers and a matching air cleaner provide a period performance appearance. Several components, including the optional Monte Carlo bar, are chrome plated. The clean metal engine compartment is neatly painted and detailed.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT
The underside of the trunk lid and the jamb are glossy, while the solid trunk interior is finished in semi-gloss paint. The weatherstrip and trunk mat were replaced. A car cover and a box of miscellaneous spare items are included.
CHASSIS AND UNDERSIDE
The Mach 1 competition steering and suspension were completely rebuilt during restoration and have been maintained since. Welded frame connectors and tubular traction bars provide added rigidity and rear-axle control. Braking uses front discs and rear drums, and the parking brake is connected.
A ceramic-coated dual-exhaust system uses Flowmaster mufflers and quad tips through the rear valance. The fuel system, including the tank, was replaced. The engine has a chrome high-capacity oil pan and chrome flywheel cover. The fresh Top Loader four-speed uses an 11-inch clutch and Hurst shifter. The original nine-inch rear axle was rebuilt with new bearings, 31-spline axles, 3.50 gears and a Detroit Locker. The floors and frame rails are solid.
