INTERIOR

The restored black interior features black-and-white houndstooth bucket-seat upholstery. The seats were rebuilt with firm replacement cushions and new headrests. New carpeting, dimmer switch, pedals and front GM-style seat belts complete the floor area. A replacement center console houses the factory-style gauges.

The metal dashboard is gloss painted and fitted with a replacement dash pad, clean trim, knobs and lenses, a restored steering wheel and a factory tachometer. Vintage Air uses a stock-appearing control panel with modern electronic slide controls, and a retro-style stereo fits the factory opening. The mirror, visors, headliner, door panels, armrests and window cranks were replaced.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT

The engine is dressed to resemble the 396 originally available in this model but has been upgraded to a 454. It uses an aluminum Edelbrock intake, dual-feed Holley carburetor and HEI ignition, with reproduction valve covers, air cleaner and decals.

The alternator, pulleys and power-steering hardware are new. Cooling is handled by a replacement radiator, cap, clutch fan and shroud. A new power-brake system uses a cadmium-plated booster, and a Vintage Air heat and air-conditioning system is installed. The battery is securely mounted with replacement cables, and the wiring, horns and wiper motor present fresh.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT

The trunk is clean metal with a spatter-paint finish. Rear-seat insulation and weatherstripping were replaced, and the underside of the trunk lid and jamb are finished in gloss black.

CHASSIS AND UNDERSIDE

The body was removed from the frame and reinstalled with new body bushings. The clean 454 has a high-torque starter, and its block displays 7.4-liter and high-performance castings. The fresh Turbo 400 automatic has a chrome pan and replacement-looking universal joints. A 12-bolt rear axle completes the drivetrain.

The car has a new dual-exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers and a replacement fuel system with an upgraded stainless-steel tank. The front suspension was rebuilt with replacement spindles, tie-rod ends, bushings, springs and shocks, with new rear shocks. The braking system was renewed with front discs and a connected parking brake. The underside metal is clean and finished in satin black.
